AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Capitol Home Health has partnered with telehealth company, Health Recovery Solutions (HRS), to deliver enhanced remote care to Medicare patients with congestive heart failure (CHF).

Capitol Home Health decided to adopt HRS technology due to the software’s ease of use for patients, caregivers, and clinicians. The team at Capitol Home Health views the telehealth software as a tool that promotes disease self-management and can therefore result in both long- and short-term reductions in re-hospitalizations.

Melisa Arnette, DPT, Administrator at Capitol Home Health Austin/Marble Falls, understands the ability of telehealth to promote patient independence. She states, “Telehealth is a tool to increase a patient’s confidence in their ability to effectively and independently manage chronic symptoms.” Cathy Bowen, RN, Administrator for the San Antonio branch adds, “The ease with which patients will be able to monitor and manage the telehealth equipment will result in better compliance.”

HRS allows the clinical staff at Capitol Home Health to remotely monitor patients and identify patients who are at risk for hospital readmissions or emergency department visits. Patients placed on Capitol Home Health’s telehealth program are provided with 4G tablets pre-loaded with the HRS software. The tablets pair with disease specific Bluetooth biometric devices that allow patients to take their blood pressure, weight, heart rate, and more. The physiological data automatically transmits to the tablet and is electronically delivered to the patient’s nurse, allowing clinicians to address any medical abnormalities in a timely manner.

The HRS telehealth software also facilitates patient participation and self-management with daily medication reminders and disease specific educational content. Additionally, patients can actively communicate with their clinicians in real time using the tablet’s text, phone call, and video chat features.

The clinical team at Capitol Home Health is particularly excited about the software’s video calling feature, as it will give them the ability to accurately assess patients remotely. Video conferencing is of great benefit to the CHF patient population because it allows clinicians to remotely evaluate patients who are experiencing problems with breathing and swelling. As a result, the clinicians at Capitol Home Health can help patients successfully manage medical issues remotely and prevent unnecessary ER visits.

Spencer Shults, Director of Marketing at Capitol Home Health, is excited about the prospect of using HRS telehealth to improve patient outcomes. He explains, “Capitol Home Health will utilize the HRS software to provide patients with direct access to Capitol’s case management staff. This software will allow patients to monitor vitals, contact clinical staff through video chat and text messaging, and give patients access to clinical staff in real-time. By having clinical staff at their fingertips, we believe that telehealth services will provide a level of comfort for patients and provide positive outcomes. We are confident this will shorten recovery time and help reduce the risk of re-hospitalization.”

Rohan Udeshi, CEO of HRS, adds, “Capitol Home Health has an advanced understanding of the power of telehealth to promote patient independence long after discharge from a home health telehealth program. We are honored to be working with such a forward-thinking organization and we are excited to play a role in their mission to enhance patient care.”
